Rev. Bryant Scott

Recording company executive or dentist?  Reverend Bryant Scott faced that choice in 1988.  You might say that either path would be following in the “family” business!  Bryant’s dad, sister and daughter are all dentists and his dad also formed the music label, Tyscot Records.  Bryant prayed and fasted and he clearly heard God leading him into the music industry.

That does not mean that things were easy!  Thanks to a lot of hard work and God’s blessing, the business was financially successful in three years.  “I was calling a lot of radio stations and music stores and was hearing quite a few ‘no’s,’ but I persisted,” says Scott.  “My dad started this business and came very close to closing it, but we realized that God was opening doors and was breathing new life into it for a reason.”

In December of 2011, Reverend Scott heard a radio commercial for the Dr. Thomas Benjamin Cohort at Wesley Seminary; he made a phone call and started on his MDIV in January of 2012.  Scott says that, “Wesley Seminary changed my life and redefined what it meant to be a pastor.”  He developed lifelong friendships with his classmates and they maintain a mutual respect for their differences and an appreciation for their commonalities.  He added, “Wesley Seminary helped me to see the world and people through the eyes of God.”

In addition to running Tyscot Records, Bryant has pastored Total Praise and Worship Center with his wife, Ta’Sha Scott, since 2013.  They are also involved in real estate, an eBay franchise and a property management company.  With all of these roles, Bryant says that God has been talking to him about focus in 2020, and specifically about spending more time in his pastoral role.

After seminary, Scott considered leaving the music industry all together to become a full time pastor.  God made it clear to him that he could serve the Kingdom in both roles.  He remembers that, “My VP of Sales told me that I was his pastor and I realized that God was using me to make a difference in an ever-evolving business.  My prayer is to hear God clearly and to follow without hesitation how He directs.  We do not always see the finished picture – we just have the puzzle pieces, but God is holding the box and He knows what the end result will be.”
